Our History

Pastor Pierre Paul Ambroise, the father of Bishop Himrod Ambroise, established Haitian Fellowship Church of Christ over 40 years ago, the first Haitian church in the state of New Jersey. Haitian Fellowship Church of Christ was a hub for many Haitians in the Tri State area with members from New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. As the Haitian population grew in the Tri State Area, the church membership increased as well. As a child Himrod followed in his father's footsteps arriving to church early with his father before service ensuring that everything was satisfactory. By the age of 13, Pastor Pierre Paul gave Himrod keys to the church. He recalls a key ring with many keys dangling as he would open the doors of the sanctuary for his father. Himrod was instrumental in the music ministry playing the piano, keyboard, organ, drums and bass guitar. Over 35 years ago, Pastor Pierre Paul began missionary aid to Haiti establishing three churches and schools. In November of 2002 Pastor Pierre Paul arranged a trip to Haiti purchasing airline tickets scheduled for June 2003. Pastor Pierre Paul told his parishioners that he was going to officially pass the torch to his son Himrod to continue God's work in ministry. That day that Pastor Pierre Paul dreamed of never took place. In March 2003, Pastor Pierre Paul Ambroise went to be with the Lord. Bishop Himrod Ambroise presided over his father's funeral and has been in ministry ever since. Pastor Pierre Paul Ambroise Sr. legacy was the ability to preach in French, Creole and English. Bishop Himrod also has the gift to preach in both English and Creole simultaneously ministering to a multicultural congregation.
